Making a Measurement
Exhibition
To celebrate National Science week, Steven Durbach, as Sid, The Scientist, will be performing measurements during his residence in the Yalagang room. Having been a working scientist he is curious about what it means to measure; why we measure and the things we measure with.
Originally from South Africa, Australia welcomed Steven and his family more than a decade ago. The beauty and depth of Australia and more locally the environs of Bondi are enmeshed in the artist he has evolved into. He uses his art, as a scientist, to measure the changes experienced and explore what has informed who he was to who he is in the world now.
Open days
As part of the residency he will periodically open the space to the public and invite them to be part of this measuring – to play out the way we interact and evolve with each other.
The space will be open to the public on:
Saturday 17 August - 11am-2pm
Sunday 18 August - 11am-2pm
Wednesday 21 August - 11am-2pm
Thursday 22 August - 11am-2pm
Weaving knowledge- an encounter with artists and scientists - Panel
Art and science reflect two very different ways that we are in the world.
Steven Durbach will host a panel that includes contemporary artists Jane Burton Taylor and Annelies Jahn and evolutionary biologist Russell Bonduriansky as part of a celebration of National Science Week to engage the audience and panellists in a conversation about how these very different processes (art and science) come to know their world/s and what these worlds looks like from such different vantage points.
Panel will be held Wednesday 14 August at 6:30pm in The Yalagang Room
Local Creative Collaborations is a Waverley Council program supporting our local artists.
